- Purdue Canine Care Certification and animal welfare science literature.

- USDA/APHIS breeder regulations and state-level requirements.

- Educational standards from credentialing and apprenticeship models in comparable industries.

This benchmarking ensured the standards were rooted in both canine-specific expertise and broader educational practice.
